Simon-Alexandre, Jacques and Louis

Simon-Alexandre

Eldest son of Alexandre de Kervoach and Louise Bernier

Long considered the youngest son of the family, Simon-Alexandre was actually the first one born in February 1732 before his parents' marriage. The confusion arose because his youngest brother born in 1735 was baptized Alexandre. Now, we know that the eldest son, born out of wedlock, was baptized Simon-Alexandre Bernier on 28 February 1732; he was legitimatized the day of his parents wedding on 22 October 1732 in Cap-Saint-Ignace.

The first born was named both Simon and Alexandre after the priest, Simon Foucault, and his father, Alexandre « voyager » as it appears in the Church register. Early in life, he was known only as Simon while his youngest brother was called Alexandre.

On 15 June 1758, the eldest, Simon-Alexandre married Élisabeth Chalifour of L’Islet, daughter of François Chalifour and Élisabeth Gamache. Two days before, at the notary Noël Dupont, the couple signed a marriage contract.

The couple lived in L’Islet on land Simon-Alexandre had bought a year before his marriage. The couple had fifteen children, eleven girls and four boys, but only one of the boys had descendants, among whom is the famous Franco-American author Jack Kerouac.

Jacques

Second son of Alexandre de Kervoach and Louise Bernier

Jacques, the second son of Alexandre de Kervoach and Louise Bernier, was born on 16 November 1733 and baptized the next day in Cap-Saint-Ignace. Shortly after we loose his trace; however, we do know that he was still alive in 1737 but no longer in 1756.

Louis

Last son of Alexandre de Kervoach and Louise Bernier

Louis, youngest son of the Alexandre de Kervoach and Louise Bernier, was born on 24 May 1735. The following day he was baptized Alexandre. In 1737, he was still known as Alexandre, but in 1752, his name finally changed to Louis.

On 11 January 1757, in Cap-Saint-Ignace, Louis married Marie-Catherine Métot, daughter of Joseph Métot and Hélène Le Normand dit* Jorien. The day before, the couple signed a marriage contrat, in notary Noël Dupont’s office. Initially the couple resided in L’Islet, on land given to Louis by his mother the previous year, but in 1761, they moved to Cap-Saint-Ignace on the property where Louis had grown up, in the Vincelotte Seigniory, where his parents had spent most of their married life. (*dit = known as).

Louis and Catherine had ten children, three girls and seven boys. Brother Marie-Victorin is a descendant of the couple's youngest son, Pierre, born in 1777.

Louis died at the relatively young age of forty-four on 21 August 1779. Two days later, on 23 August he was interred in Cap-Saint-Ignace.
