Montreal Botanical Garden

The Montreal Botanical Garden and the Flore Laurentienne are most likely the two greatest works of Brother Marie-Victorin, f.é.c., born Conrad Kirouac. Therefore, the botanical garden located in Montreal, holds a very special place in the heart of every member of the Kirouac family.

On 18 September 1954, Maurice Duplessis, the then Premier of the Province of Quebec, officially unveiled the statue of Brother Marie-Victorin at the Montreal Botanical Garden. The statue was sculpted by Mrs. Sylvia Daoust.

On 14 July 1995, Mr. Nick Discepola, Canadian Member of Parliament for Vaudreuil-Soulanges, on behald of the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada, unveiled a memorial plaque honouring Brother Marie-Victorin.

But only in 1999, following a suggestion by Jean-François Kirouac (GFK 00808*) and other members of the Kirouac Family Association, that Clément Kirouac, then KFA president, made representation to have Brother Marie-Victorin's civil name, Conrad Kirouac, engraved on the base of the monument sculpted by Sylvia Daoust.
